Jordan E. Horne Jr.

August 17, 1943 ~ May 11, 2020 (age 76)

Horne, Jordan E. “Tuffy” – age 76, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 after a long battle with Lewy Body Alzheimer’s. He was born on August 17, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Elbert and Theresa Horne. In 1961, he graduated from Trinity High School in Louisville, KY.

Jordan was employed at Delta Airlines for 25 years, but his true passion was baseball. A gifted athlete, he played 2nd base for the University of Kentucky baseball team (1963-65), and went on to be the head coach of his alma mater’s baseball team from 1973 to 1978. He fostered and supported that same love of baseball in his sons and step-children through many backyard practice sessions, watching countless little league games, and coaching the Anderson Redskins Varsity Softball team. He continued to play softball for many years, worked as a baseball umpire, and was a scout for the Seattle Mariners for six years.

His athletic endeavors didn’t end there. Jordan also worked as a college basketball referee for several years. In addition, he was a ping pong player to be reckoned with, often playing with his left hand to give his opponents a fighting chance. He was always up for an ice cream run, especially when peach ice cream was on the menu. His even keel, genuine interest when talking to people, and thoughtful demeanor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife Roberta, sons David (Michelle) and Stephen, step-children Sarah Weiner, Joseph (Lesley) Weiner, and Nathan Weiner, and eight grandchildren. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date for immediate family.
